Acrotomophilia and Apotemnophilia

From Wikipedia -- Acrotomophilia (from the Greek akron [extremity], tomein [to cut] and philein [to love]), refers to a paraphilia in which an individual expresses strong sexual interest in amputees. It is a counterpart to apotemnophilia, the sexual interest in being an amputee.

Do you fantasize about rubbing nubs? I think out of the two of these, apotemnophilia seems the worst because it's the desire to have healthy limbs cut off. There are a handful of people that have had limbs permanently removed in order to better suit their fetish. If I were a doctor, I'd have a serious issue with this kind of request.
Here's Rose McGowan as a sexualized amputee in the movie "Death Proof."
Have a great Thursday

  1. This is the sort of thing I fully expect to turn up in the next series of Game of Thrones.

  2. Elise's comment rocks!
Reminds me of the Cronenberg film, Crash. Or is car crashes and injuries an upcoming fetish?

  3. Whoa, I think one of my characters might have the second one.

  4. You should write a compilation of short stories where a character has one of these preferences.

  5. Tonja's comment caught my eyes. Definitely an idea to think about. Thank goodness this isn't my project, otherwise I'd be off jotting notes to get that set of stories started.

Anyway, to get back to my comment, there are sooooo many types in the world that I'll never understand. Your head seriously needs examining when you want to have a nub just for sexual thrills.

    Shaking my head here.

  7. You have to wonder if the people who get a limb cut off realize that's forever. They don't grow back!

  8. I saw an episode of CSI NY where this was part of their case. It's hard to believe it's true.

  9. Wasn't there a movie to do with some guy cutting off someone's limbs?

  10. I would say something funny, but Elise stole my thunder.

  11. @Andrew: Probably. I have no idea what the name of it is though. It's probably a horror movie.

  12. All my fantasies are nub-free! I have a friend who thinks there should be a kinkopedia for exactly these kinds of terms.

  13. Oh man. I remember reading a SF story about this. Oh man.

  15. rosie was the long lost sister/cousin in the tv program who joined the cast when one of the original 'three sisters' either quit or was fired... can't recall the title or who other players were... it ran for some time, but was poorly done, in my opinion.... like, a 'good witch' falling for/marrying a demon/devil, or whatever he was supposed to be....

  16. Say what you like - shooting stuff out of your prosthesis is pretty freakin' kewl.

In other news; didja catch American Horror Story last night, didja, huh, huh, didja????? It felt like coming home...sure, to a pretty demented home, but then, can't we all relate? ;-)

  19. @Mina: Yes I did! Last night's episode was quite good. I think the thing that created the deep scratches in the room being disinfected by Dr. "Mengele" might be the alien(s) that attacked Kit. It's interesting that the timeline is 1964. We have the start of the space race, Kennedy is president, and a lot of Americans being vocal about alien abduction (probably related to the space race). I think there is obviously more than one Bloody Face. The one that surprised the girl running through the old asylum halls at the end will not be the same one that was in the room (as there was no way out of that room). So what's in the room might very well be being fed by Bloody Face, or could be the animals that were eating the human flesh in the woods (if we can call them animals). I'm thinking that they are probably what's left of humans who have been vivisected, probably amputated, and lobotomized. I have so many questions...the show definitely pulls in several different directions which will be exciting to see the tale unfold. The strange chip that turned into a cockroach made me think that there probably is a genuine "alien" thing going on here making me suspect that the doctor may be an "alien." After all, aliens abduct people to experiment on them. What better role for an alien to play than in the role of a sanitarium's doctor. Oh and the priest is definitely in league with the evil doctor. He came to that dude's defense waaayy to fast. I think Jessica Lange's character is going to get effed over by the doctor and him about mid-season.

  20. Okay, Elise had the best joke, so I won't try to top her. This is yet another sexual "interest" that leaves me saying my usual, unsophisticated "Ewww, gross!"

  21. I remember seeing a documentary that showed people cutting off little bits of their fingers and toes bit by bit with cigar cutters. It was a very odd show.

  22. Michael, I posted this on my blog, after your comment there and am doubling up here as well. I wonder about what that Doctor's up to...are his experiments creating monsters? (It seems almost an obvious "yes.") Your idea of the thing he's keeping in the room being the alien that attacked Kit and his lady intrigues me...I hadn't "gone there" till I read your post. And more than one Bloody Face - another interesting idea! I guess I was just thinking that the good Doctor was creating the "Bloody Face" creature, whatever it is, and that Kit somehow got caught up in the mess after his alien abduction. Yeah, I was glad to see that alien chip/bug thing, so you don't have to wonder if Kit's hallucinating and that he really *was* messed with. The doc seemed surprised to see it, though...I hope Lange's Sr. Jude stays strong and saves the day. Yeah, she's kind of a tool, but she does seem to care about those patients who don't have any family to avenge them. That's something, at least. :-)

  23. I don't get this one either. I think it's fine to be attracted to someone who was born without or lost a limb, of course. It's the desiring to cut off their own limbs that's really odd.

  24. Oh, my. I had no idea this existed. I use to work with amputees. Some of ones at the VA might have thought this was cool. I'm kind of glad no one had heard of this back then. They liked to tease me enough.
